Get Connected > Community Groups

Do you need a place to belong,

a place to become?

HPCC is a big place, but a "small group" provides the intimacy and warmth of family. Over half of the adults and youth attending weekly worship are in a Community Group. In those small groups people share life together, worship, pray for one another and study the Bible together, learning what it means for our day-to-day life. For more information ask for our Community Group Directory at the Welcome Center, or call Tami Rudkin at 265-4073 (email her at trudkin@hpcc.cc).

  God's viewpoint:
  How it works:
  Then what:
"Two are better than one,

because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down,

his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls

and has no one to help him up!
Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.

But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,

two can defend themselves.

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

 - Ecclesiastes 4.9-12
Community Pastors lead, and in essence, pastor a small group of 5-20 individuals in weekly meetings. Here in the climate of love, trust and friendship they grow together. Following the example set in Acts 2:42-47, the format of our Community Groups include sharing life together, worship, application of God's Word, prayer and outreach.
HPCC is committed to train and support Community Pastors in various ways. Community Pastors go through TURBO (Basic Leadership Training) and on the job training to qualify as Community Pastors. Monthly, advanced training is offered at Leadership Link to help Community Pastors to be enthusiastic and relevant.

COMMUNITY GROUP TESTIMONIES:

Community Group Pastor: Megan Shade

Hello, my name is Megan and I grew up on the second pew, organ side, of Southside Baptist Church in a small Texas town.  My grandpa was the preacher, my grandma played the organ, and my aunt played the piano.  My earliest childhood memories include getting a cherry gumball out of my great grandma's purse every Sunday morning, and stealing the tiny sugar cubes off the coffee table in the fellowship hall.

I've always had a lot of head knowledge about God but never truly got it.  I am talking about way down in the depths of my soul "Get It" until I joined a community group at HPCC.  A few years ago my husband and I joined the Smothers' group and the Word of God suddenly burst in to life for me!!

My husband and I are now leading a group and are following God on the wildest adventure of our lives! Being in a community group has taught me to get rid of my "mask" and just "get real" with Jesus, myself, and with others in my group.

I would encourage anyone who is not in a group, to get plugged into one NOW! And hold on tight - you are in the ride of your life!

Community Group Member: Melissa Riley

My name is Melissa Riley, and I attend a Small Group on Monday nights lead by Juli Banks. Together, we have been studying the book written by James Bryan Smith called The Good and Beautiful God, Falling in Love With The God Jesus Knows.

Have you ever wondered if God really loves you? I know I’ve had this question before in my life.

Each chapter in the book discusses life changing narratives that we face concerning God and his character according to the Scriptures. There are soul training exercises that build on the material dealt with in each chapter to develop a deeper understanding of God; how to slow down, and make time for His encounter in the day.
This book is set up to be conversed in a Community Small Group or on your own using journal entries. However, I’ll warn the faint of heart, the questions in the book have prompted terrific discussions to certain truths about God that have given me opportunities in a group setting to be able to share my faith with others, as well as, learn from their experiences and perspectives.

So as you make your New Year’s resolutions and wonder if the “WILLPOWER” you’ve experienced in the past will actually work this year. Come and see for yourself the God Jesus knows; who is really working for ‘good in everyday lives.

I’ll close with this praise to God in Nahum 1:7: Thank you, Lord, for always being good, a refuge in times of trouble. You care for those who trust in you.

Thank you & God Bless
